ABOUT THE CLINICIAN

Stephanie Arnott

Stephanie is an extremely passionate and dedicated Speech Pathologist who aspires to provide the best quality care for her clients. She is particularly interested in the areas of early language development, communication difficulties associated with developmental disorders such as Autism, sensory feeding therapy, stuttering, literacy and speech and articulation therapy.

Stephanie graduated with a Bachelor of Speech Pathology (with honours) from The University of Queensland in 2020. Since then Stephanie has acquired multiple certifications by participating in professional development throughout her time working as a Speech Pathologist which allow her to deliver several programs that require a certification. These include SOS feeding course + the SOS mentorship course, Hanen 'More than Words', The Lidcombe Program Course, and the Nuffield Dyspraxia Program.

Upon graduating, Stephanie spent over two years in a private practice supporting predominately children under the age of 10 with significant communication difficulties and other disabilities. She then transitioned into a role whereby a large proportion of her caseload presented with literacy difficulties such as dyslexia. In conjunction with this part of her caseload, she has also been working closely with children who require alternative and augmentative forms of communication (AAC).

EDUCATION/FURTHER TRAINING

Sensory Oral Sequential Feeding Therapy (SOS)

"Based on and grounded philosophically in the “normal” developmental steps, stages and skills of feeding found in typically developing children, the SOS Approach focuses on increasing a child’s comfort level by exploring and learning about the different properties of food. The program allows a child to interact with food in a playful, non-stressful way, beginning with the ability to tolerate the food in the room and in front of him/her, then moving on to managing the smell of the foods, learning about how foods feel on the body and in their mouth, and then enjoying tasting and eating new foods following the Steps to Eating." - (SOS Approach to Feeding, 2024)

As a SOS certified practitioner, Stephanie can use the SOS program and resources to support her clients who experience a very broad range of sensory difficulties associated with food. This closely ties in with the name of the practice being "chit chat, taste that'!

Hanen 'More than Words' Program

Hanen 'More than Words' is a highly evidence-based program that has been developed to support parents of children with autism spectrum disorder or social communication difficulties. It focuses on the day-to-day life between a child and their primary caregivers. In this program parents discover how to transform everyday activities like book reading and mealtime into opportunities for extending language development.

The Lidcombe Program

The Lidcombe Program is a behavioral stuttering program for children under the age of 6 and may be suitable for older children depending on circumstances. "Clinical trials around the world have shown that, for children who stutter and who are younger than 6 years, the treatment has an excellent chance of achieving no stuttering or nearly no stuttering and to maintain that benefit for a long time (Lidcombe Program, 2024)"

The Nuffield Motor Speech Program

The Nuffield Dyspraxia Program is delivered to clients with a range of severe motor speech disorders including childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). "It can be described as a “bottom up” approach, in that the aim is to “build” accurate speech from core units of single speech sounds (phonemes) and simple syllables (NDP3, 2024)"
